A ribbon-cutting ceremony marked the grand opening of Veolia's administration building and Evergreen Landfill.
City officials and staff explained how the 137-acre area benefits the community, and showcased its "green" office building that's both energy efficient and made from recycled materials.
"The landfill meets disposal needs for the south Georgia - north Florida community," said Andrew Rodgers, Veolia's area manager. He added, "This landfill currently receives approximately 1,600 tons of solid waste each day."
It took 10 months to create Evergreen Landfill and it's now open for disposable waste.
