The past few days have been violent in Valdosta.

Within one weekend, two men have been sent to the hospital for unrelated gunshot wounds to the head.

Valdosta Police say one victim, a 22-year-old Valdosta man, was shot when a gunman opened fire into his vehicle from a passing car near the Hudson Dockett Housing Complex.

According to some, a little gunfire is nothing new.

Says area resident Bruce Thomas, "I mean, it really -- stuff like that happens everyday, so you just get used to it."

Others aren't quite as indifferent.

Randolph Lamons lives in the LeMans Apartment complex where the second victim, 38-year-old Hai Ngo was shot.

He says the neighbors are pleasant people, but he's worried what will happen to his children when they're outside the apartment.

Says Lamons, "It scared me. I was scared because I have kids that are out, you know, and it's scary and you don't feel safe in your own house."

Some feel the easiest way to stay safe involves carrying a weapon themselves.

Thomas remarked, "Only thing you can do is get a gun to try and protect yourself -- it's hard to protect yourself."

The Valdosta Police Department says both shooting cases are under investigation.

People say it's unfortunate, but they know this won't be the last time they see violence in Valdosta.

Blame the gun, wake up fools the gun is a tool just like a hammer or a knife. The persons using the aforementioned are the ones responsible for it's use or misuse. Blame the liquor bottle for the DUI death, get it. Laws only affect law abiding citizens, THAT'S why I DON'T CALL 911.

I remember when valdosta was so safe I never bothered to lock my doors. That wasn't so long ago. Now I'm getting a permit and a gun. Don't come to my house with crime on your mind.

Gangs, drug dealers, shootings and home invasions have made most citizens here fearful. The rest of us will be buying guns and securing permits to carry them. We will protect ourselves and our families. We've had enough and refuse to let these thugs turn our city into a HOOD!
