At Westside Elementary School, kids and staff marched in a Character Parade to celebrate Read Across America.

Eight-hundred fifty children, and even faculty, dressed up as any fictional character they chose.

The requirement: To strut with their story books in tow.

"I'm getting to be with my friends and watch everybody dress up in their costumes," said 11-year-old Kayleigh Steinberg. "And we don't have to do any work this morning."

The Character Parade culminates a week-long celebration of Dr. Seuss' Birthday.
