TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) The Florida Supreme Court is reviewing
a citizen initiative that would offer property owners more tax
relief.
The justices were set to hear oral arguments Wednesday on the
potential 2010 ballot proposal. It comes less than 24 hours after
polls closed for this year's election.
It would limit taxes to 1.35 percent of the highest taxable
value of a home, business or other real estate.
The justices will determine if the proposed state constitutional
amendment covers only a single subject and has a clear and accurate
title and ballot summary.
Petition drive sponsors say tax cuts ordered by law last year
and contained in an amendment voters passed in January don't go far
enough.
