Tallahassee Police are investigating an accident that caused traffic to back up at Thomasville Road and Waverly Road around 8:00 this morning.
Sgt. Steve Gauding says a Toyota Camry was going eastbound on Waverly Road. He says the driver of the Camry pulled out in front of a black Toyota 4Runner traveling on Thomasville Road.
Gauding says the 4Runner was hit and turned sideways, causing it to flip over several times and land on its roof.
The driver, the mother of an infant, was ejected and thrown into the middle of Thomasville Road. Her infant was found in the back of the SUV.
Gauding says although a baby seat was found in the vehicle, the infant was out of the safety seat when police arrived. They are investigating whether the child was strapped in at the time of the accident.
Police say it appears the driver of the Camry is at fault. That driver was not injured. The mother and baby who were in the 4Runner were taken to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital. The mother reportedly has serious injuries. Police say the baby is doing fine.
