Florida’s new insurance advocate for consumers is asking state lawmakers to give him some real authority.
Former Comptroller Bob Milligan came back to state government in order to represent consumers in their battles against the insurance industry, but Milligan says he doesn’t want to be a toothless tiger.
Milligan said, "We need to be able to get records if we want to. We need to be able to become an integral part of the activities and not just sitting at the table voicing our opinion and then either having it ignored or maybe paid attention to just to give us more clout."
The Banking and Insurance Committee in the State Senate approved a bill Tuesday that gives Milligan more clout, but it has a long way to go in the legislative process.
