(AP) _ The homeless would be among those
protected under a proposed law in the Florida Legislature.
A House committee approved the hate-crimes legislation
The bill is a response to recent assaults on the homeless in
South Florida. It would increase penalties for people who target
the homeless for violence just because they're homeless.
The bill is sponsored by Representative Priscilla Taylor, a
Democrat of West Palm Beach.
A similar bill is in the Senate.
