Author Cynthia Weaks says her college-aged daughter was a victim of bank fraud that led to racketeering, sexual exploitation and theft.
She says many college students fall victim to scams and need to take measures to protect themselves.
"What the need to do is research people. They have the Internet, they have their Blackberry, they have their counselors, their mentors, they have their cell phones. If they get into a situation, they need to contact people or try to find people to help them get out of it."
Weaks set up an organization called the The Mad Parent Corporation to educate and create awareness about these types of crimes.
