NASA launched two lunar orbiters Saturday morning, despite weather conditions which limited launch windows to one minute.
The orbiters were originally scheduled to take off Thursday.
The unmanned probes are designed to map out the moon's surface in unprecedented detail.
The two probes are nearly identical.
Called GRAIL-A and GRAIL-B, they were launched aboard a single Delta II rocket, in order to save money.
