Businesses are shuttered, subways and buses are shutdown and the Broadway theaters are closed.
The massive storm is also creating tornado's and it's believed one of those twisters ripped a Delaware building apart.

More than a million people in the Northeast have been told to evacuate, many in coastal areas which are getting pounded by powerful waves.
Irene ripped through North Carolina and Virginia with 100 mile per hour winds.
Thousands of homes have been damaged and more than a million people are without power.
Now the storm is soaking the mid Atlantic as it moves up the east coast.
States in the Northeast and New England are in emergency mode.
Many airports are shutdown and some 9-thousand flights have been canceled.
In Boston the Red Cross is preparing ready for the worst.
