A Jasper City Council member fighting to keep his seat says he's feeling the heat because he voted to oust the former City Manager.

Councilman Darnell Lumpkin has been working to prove his physical address is within the district he serves.

Lumpkin told Eyewitness News he became a target once he voted to terminate former City Manager Larry Cail.

Wednesday, WCTV obtained a copy from the city showing Cail emailed the city attorney about Lumpkins Address saying, "It has been brought to my attention that Mr. Lumpkin changed his voter registration from the district he represents in the city to a district within the county on October 31, 2008."

Cail goes on to say that according to the City Charter that Lumpkin must vacant the position.

"Mr. Lumpkin, where do you live? In my trailer park, 898 Southwest sixth street Lot two."

In a packed room, Jasper City Councilman Darnell Lumpkin braved the fire to tell his counterparts why he still qualified to hold his seat.

"I lived on sixth street for ten years," said Lumpkin.

Earlier this week, a meeting was called to address Lumpkin's mailing address and whether or not he met the requirements to be a councilman.

One by one residents stepped forward to speak for and against Lumpkin.

"According to the voter registration, the address they give him is 898 sixth street Southwest and I believe unit number two but the question is does he truly live there?

"Why do they keep bugging this man about where he lives at? I don't understand that. I thought everyone was suppose to get along up here and do the right thing."

Although Lumpkin has utility bills showing he does live within city limits, he says this special meeting isn't just about his address.

"To be honest and frank about it, this is not an issue dealing with the city, this is kind of a personal issue that they are dealing with because we fired the ex-City Manager Larry Cail," said Lumpkin.

Lumpkin has 20 days to get legal advice and all his paperwork together before he faces the council again. But he says finding justice is tough in Jasper.

"It's not fair here, it's not justice and won't never be justice here."

But it's something he looks to find in his next Public Hearing.
