WASHINGTON, 11/22/11 --
President Barack Obama says the end of the Iraq war and action in Libya show U.S. international leadership but the greatest challenge lies within the United States.
In his weekly radio and Internet address, Obama says Libya and
Iraq are powerful reminders of America's renewed leadership in the
world.
But he says the "greatest challenge as a nation" is rebuilding a weak economy and creating jobs -- with the "same urgency and unity that our troops brought to their fight."
In the Republicans' weekly message, North Carolina Sen. Richard
Burr, R-N.C., bemoaned 32 consecutive months with unemployment
above 8 percent.
Burr urged action on a Republican alternative to Obama's rejected $447 billion jobs bill.
Burr says people are hurting and the economy is in "grave danger."
