Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood is visiting Orlando for a signing ceremony that will bring a commuter rail system one step closer to completion.

Officials are scheduled to sign a federal funding agreement at a ceremony Monday afternoon. About half of the $1.3 billion SunRail project is to be funded by the federal government; the rest will
come from the state and local governments.

The rail would connect downtown Orlando with Osceola, Seminole and Volusia counties. It is expected to be finished in 2014.

Gov. Rick Scott approved SunRail earlier this month after initially voicing concerns about its feasibility and cost. His go-ahead was anything but a sure thing. Shortly after taking office, Scott rejected $2.4 billion in federal money for a high-speed train line from Orlando to Tampa.
