Two space shuttle Endeavour astronauts are spacewalking outside the International Space Station.

Drew Feustel and Gregory Chamitoff left the shuttle a few minutes early, at 3:10 a.m. while Endeavour and the station floated over the Philippines.

Their spacewalk is scheduled to last about six and a half hours.

NASA officials said this spacewalk is supposed to be as routine as they get for what is always a risky task of strolling outside in space.

The astronauts will retrieve three experiments outside the station, install a new one and do some maintenance work.

This is the first spacewalk for Chamitoff. He called it a dream come true.

Endeavour's astronauts will spacewalk four times.

While millions are without work, while we continue to support the most money making industry in America , while we continue to send aid to corrupt governments across the globe , while many in America have little medical care , while our own government is actually debt ridden,, Why do we continue to waste money on this and other shiny examples of living high on the hog when in fact the hog has gotten very skinny.... 2buckchuck

@chuck - Everyday, you benefit from the technology that the space program developed. We do have problems, but they are more related to the Wall Street mega-millionaires that need a sixth Swiss Alp vacation home than the engineers and astronauts.

I agree with you Chuck. Like most Republicans, I don't believe in the obsurd idea of the "future." That's why I elect officials who cut funding to all levels of education, don't want to invest in alternate energy, and cut NASA's budget. Who cares about the future? Hippies, ignorant liberal hippies that's who
