Affordable Housing in Midway

It's the American dream to own a home and Midway city officials are trying to help folks in the Big Bend do just that. City officials will be showcasing several affordable housings to residents and interested buyers.

Bob Stout is one of several contractors who's building brand new homes with amenities in the city of Midway. Stout says the city has a lot to offer folks from the surrounding areas.

"We're two, three, four miles, so it's easy accessibility so it hasn't been over built like Wakulla where you have couple of fetter roads where people are sitting in lines forever."

One hundred homes are being constructed in the Hill Top subdivision. Midway city officials are hoping these affordable homes will not only improve the quality of life for residents, but also ease the overcrowding in the Big Bend area.

In the meantime, crews have been hammering out the final details and putting the finishing touches around newly built homes that will be showcased in a home expo scheduled for Saturday.

Builders say these houses are a cut above the rest when it comes to quality single family homes, but aside from modern conveniences, potential buyers will be able to get help in purchasing one of the homes.

Paul Piller, Midway City Manager, says, "A lot of what we can do is to get them down payment assisting and get them into a house they can afford to live in. As far as the existing homes, we're looking at weatherization and other programs."

They’re programs they hope will be an incentive to attract more families to the city. Several lenders and developers will be at the Housing Expo, which will take place Saturday at City Hall from 10 a.m. in the morning until 2 p.m. in the afternoon.
