It's always nice to start the weekend early by taking Friday off, but one company is taking the day off to lend a hand to the community.
They're common every day chores; raking leaves, grocery shopping, cooking, but when they're done by a company nationwide, it takes on a whole new meaning.
John Hugill, a Deloitte Consulting employee, says, "We've got between 10 and 12,000 employees across the U.S. giving back to the community, taking time off from their project work to dedicate a day back to our communities."
It's called Impact Day and it's run by Deloitte Enterprises. Employees from around the country take the day to get away from the office and get their hands dirty in the community.
Kathy Anderson of the Tallahassee Ronald McDonald House, says, "It's really a lot of fun to have them come in and show the excitement they have from their corporate community to come and participate with the Ronald McDonald House."
Deloitte treated the Ronald McDonald House to some pressure washing, a few Halloween decorations for the kids and a home cooked meal, a fulfilling day for all involved.
Hugill adds, "It's good for them all to get together and hands-on, delivering some service back to the community and they get a sense of accomplishment at the end of the day."
Anderson says, "And that kind of gives them a really good feeling that other people, total strangers, care about what they're going through."
A three day weekend it's not, but for these workers there's not a better way to spend a day off. Impact Day was created five years ago in Atlanta, and now Deloitte expects to contribute 240,000 hours to their communities Friday.
