Come graduation, thousands of Leon County students will mark the milestone with more than just a high school diploma. They'll have college credit under their belt as well.
Not only do advanced placement classes prepare students to start college, experts say it prepares them to finish.
"Thirty-four percent get a four-year degree by taking one AP exam. That goes up to 54 percent regardless with two exams. Two or more goes up to 76 percent."
Sixty percent of U.S. high schools offer AP classes, and 87 percent of Florida’s public high schools offer Advanced Placement. In Leon County, more than 30 different AP courses are taught, courses that give students a leg up on their college education.
