Job Letdown?

Folks around the nation are always looking for a job, but a new report by the U.S. Department of Labor shows that unemployed Georgians get back to work quicker than people in any other state.

Susan Dukes of the Georgia Department of Labor says, "Our job is to try to make the process a little smoother, to provide access to the information they need in order to make the process work. We have many services that aid people in getting back to work. We have a large resource center where people can do their unemployment claims online. They can do their job search online."

Business and community leaders around our area say they hope local people realize what an asset they have here at the Department of Labor. They say this group is one of the main reasons why the unemployment rate remains low, at just 2.7 percent in Lowndes County.

Jerome Tucker, a local business expert, adds, "From a business standpoint, I don't think any other group can replace the confidence in the system or agency which is designed to provide employment opportunity to people and help businesses fill those vacancies they may have."

Statewide, Georgia's Department of Labor found jobs for nearly 77 percent of those folks who asked for help. That's the best in the nation.
