A groundbreaking in Midway officially welcomed Kauffman Tires to Gadsden County Tuesday morning. The $2.5 million distribution center will distribute a variety of tire products to wholesale tire customers and bring with it close to 30 new jobs to the area.
John Kauffman, president of Kauffman Tires, says, "Everybody that we hire will be local people. We won't bring anyone else in from the outside."
Last week city officials helped break ground on a new 50-room hotel, so the new tire company is more good news for this gem city between Quincy and Tallahassee.
Monte Bradwell of the Gadsden County Chamber of Commerce says, "We have some advantages here you don't have in other areas such as two major highways, I-10 and 90, and we have a major rail network, so it's a lot of opportunity here."
Mayor Delores Madison of the City of Midway says, "All of this is going to be fantastic for our residents out here. It's going to help us with our tax base and revenue that we've been trying to generate. Hopefully we'll be able to get a school out here."
The company will start accepting job applications beginning in February of 2005. The facility is expected to be completed in March. The application process will be coordinated through Work Force Florida in Tallahassee.
