The city has come through on the promise of a community center.
On Paul Russell Road, the new Jack L. McLean Community Center is now open for business.
Adrienne Edwards, an Apalachee Ridge resident, said, “I am very happy about this. I was here when they first built the park. To add something new, it makes me proud. It's been 10 years, so we're coming up.”
The new community center includes community rooms, a basketball court, an exercise room and a pool.
Debbie Lightsey, Tallahassee City Commissioner, said, "It's going to be a positive addition. We're going to have a new elementary school. This center will be a destination point and a positive place on the southside."
Those who are going to be utilizing the center say it is a slam dunk.
The cost of the community center was $6.3 million.
