Last Tuesday the free dinner called "Helpings from the Heart" was cancelled because of funding shortfalls, but Friday there's some good news. The dinner is back on thanks to Premiere Construction and Sandco.
Once the president of Premiere heard the celebration that brings thousands together like family was cancelled, he said “no way.”
The concept of helping your neighbor is one that the Ghazvini family understands. When they heard that the "Helpings from the Heart" Thanksgiving dinner was going to be cancelled this year due to funding, they said “no it won't.”
Pepper Ghazvini, president of Premier Construction and Sandco, says, "We've lived in this town for more than 30 years. This community has been very good to us. We saw an opportunity to help and we stepped up to the plate."
And because his family stepped up to the plate, thousands will be getting one with all the fixings this Thanksgiving at the Ole Times Country Buffet on Monroe Street.
Kay Freeman of the Tallahassee Coalition for the Homeless says, "It's really generous. It’s amazing for a big company to do this. It's extremely important."
The Ghazvini family, who owns Premiere Construction and Sandco, has donated $16,000 for the Thanksgiving food and the Ole Times Buffet will provide everything else.
Pepper Ghazvini adds, "We would really love for everybody to come. This is not just for people who can't afford Thanksgiving dinner, this is for everybody and we want to see everybody."
Kay Freeman says, "It's really touching to me. I think it's real important that our community know that there's always someone out there to lend a helping hand."
The dinner will start November 25 at 11 a.m. at the Ole Times Country Buffet on Monroe Street, which used to be a Western Sizzlin’.
More than 1,000 people are expected. The coalition is helping out to organize the event and they are definitely looking for some volunteers. You can call them at 576-5566 if you’re interested.
