Warning for Mobile Home Owners

Amy Williams has lived in a mobile home for the last five years and isn't happy about having to put a decal on the front of her home.

Amy says, "We don't like having to put them on there. I don't think it's right that we have to. It's our money that is used to do it and I just don't like doing it."

And she isn't the only one. Many of her neighbors actually refuse to put the stickers on their homes at all.

Williams adds, "Our next door neighbor has actually never put theirs on. They always get in trouble for it because they don't like having to do it."

And while most folks who live in manufactured homes aren't happy having to stick these decals on their home, county officials say by neglecting to do so you could be facing a stiff penalty.

Paige Dukes, Lowndes County Spokesperson, says, "If you don't put your sticker on your mobile home, you will get a door hanger, then you will have to prove that you have paid your taxes and it could, according to state law, progress to the courts."

It’s an action county leaders say they would prefer not to take. Mobile home residents have until May 1 to display the 2005 tax decal on their home.

County officials say they plan to cite more mobile home residents for failing to display the decal than they have in years past.
