Suwannee County Names Teacher of the Year

A woman who teaches and emphasizes words everyday can't seem to find the right words.

Rhoda Crews, a kindergarten teacher at Suwannee Primary, says, "I'm deeply excited and thrilled. I have a loss for words for what the feelings I have today as being chosen district teacher of the year."

Suwannee school officials presented Rhoda Crews with the district Teacher of the Year Award Thursday morning.

Crews is a kindergarten teacher at Suwannee Primary. Her principal says it's a well deserved honor.

Marilyn Jones, principal, says, "Rhoda Crews is a teacher that works above and beyond for each and every student. She has extreme success with at-risk students, as well as high-achieving students. She pretty much walks on water.”

Crews' wonders don't just affect her students in the classroom. One of her peers admitted to Suwannee schools Superintendent Walter Boatright that it also hits home.

He says, "Watching Ms. Crews teach her students and work with her classes, she as a mother had learned from Ms. Crews and applied some of Ms. Crews' techniques in rearing her own children."

The selection process was narrowed to eight, one teacher per school in the district.

Representatives from the Suwannee Foundation for Excellence were also present for the official presentation of the award.
