Schiavo Saga Continues

As time runs out on the brain damaged woman, efforts to have her feeding tube reinserted were dashed in the courts and the Florida Senate.

Bobby Schindler, Terri Schiavo’s brother, arrived at the Capitol and began pleading with state senators to spare his sister.

By the time the state Senate began debating legislation that could eventually order Ms. Schiavo’s feeding tube be reinserted, Shindler was in the gallery looking tired and worn.

Opponents continued to argue the bill was so broad it could invalidate tens of thousands of living wills and health care directives.

Sen. Skip Campbell, (D) Ft. Lauderdale, says, “The outcome was in doubt much of the day, but before the Senate could finish, Jeb Bush did the extraordinary. He asserted authority over Terri under the abuse statues of the state.”

Jeb Bush says, “Just before 5, the Senate voted down the legislation.”

Bobby Schindler adds, ”It’s a setback and we’re just gonna’ keep on pushing forward and not give up hope and find some way to save my sister.”

With the legislative setback, the governor’s action remains the Schiavo’s best hope.
