TALLAHASSEE -- If you're in the market for a new car you may want to check out some steals at the local government auction.

More than one hundred vehicles, tractors, boats, motorcycles and mowers are up for auction Saturday, January 26, 2008 at the North Florida Fairgrounds.

The goods include a number of surplus vehicles and seized cars from local city and county governments and sheriff departments all over North Florida and South Georgia.

"They're going to find a deal that's better than what they can buy on the market," said Don Cutchins, the regional manager for First Coast Auction. "I usually tell people sixty to eighty percent of market value is a rule of thumb to go by."

The bidding starts on all these vehicles Saturday morning starting at nine a.m.

Another government auction will take place this fall, but Cutchins warns less is being donated to these auctions because governments and sheriff departments are all undergoing budget cuts and therefore hang on to their vehicles longer than they have in the past.
