Police Recover Truck Believed to Be Involved in Hit and Run

It was a night of celebration for Allen Rasberry. He had just graduated from FAMU and there were big plans for the 24-year-old, plans that will never come to be. The graduate was struck and killed by a driver as he walked home from a Tallahassee night club.

Mikki Brooks, a family friend, says, "He was just so determined; he was a survivor and just loved life; he had that type of personality that anybody who was with him would come alive. He would bring these emotions out of people."

Some relief would come for family and friends. Tallahassee police say they found the truck they think struck Rasberry. It was found at a body shop in Cairo, Georgia. The shop's owner took one look at the damage to the truck and called authorities.

SGT Steve Gauding with TPD’s Traffic Unit says, "To identify the vehicle and the person driving so quickly is a big relief for us."

Police have interviewed a person of interest, the man they say brought the 84 Chevy truck into the shop, but at this point in the investigation there are no arrests.

For now, family and friends hold onto memories of a man they say was always the first one to smile, no matter what.

Jason Black, an assistant professor at FAMU, says, "There's a hole there and we're all just trying to stay strong to get through this."

Brooke Jenkins, Allen's cousin, says, "I told him to stop messing with me because I was grown now and graduated, and he said, ‘you'll always be my little cousin and I will always protect you.’ "

They were Rasberry's last words to a cousin and a friend who says she knows he'll always be there to look after her.

Tallahassee police say once they process the truck for additional evidence, then they'll go forward with arrests. Traffic homicide officers also continue to investigate the hit and run accident that killed an FSU student last month.
