The new Mount Zion AME Church held a special service Sunday morning honoring the men and women who protect and serve our community.
Like most Sunday mornings, it was a day of praise and appreciation at the new Mount Zion AME Church. Unlike most Sundays, part of that praise and appreciation was for law enforcement officers.
"We as a church family want to share with police and the law enforcement family of Leon County how much this church appreciates what you do for this community," said Rev. John White, a new Mt. Zion AME Church pastor.
In addition to the praise, many local officers led parts of the service, but Pastor White led the award ceremony where officers were recognized for their service, particularly Chief Walter McNeil.
"We want him to know from his church family that we appreciate him, we appreciate his long hours," added Rev. John White.
Officers of the Leon County Sheriff's Office, Florida Department of Law Enforcement and Florida State and Florida A&M Universities also received awards.
Some of the officers who helped lead Sunday's service are also members of the Mount Zion AME Church.
