Cocaine Bust in Tallahassee

It's the payoff for investigators as they execute a search warrant in Tallahassee.

From the outside, 1802 Salmon Drive appears to be a family home, but a drug bust Wednesday afternoon proves otherwise.

Shari Maupin, a Salmon Street resident, says, "We felt a lot safer looking outside seeing all the policemen and all the undercover people. It really made us feel safe that they knew what was going on."

Based on a previous controlled cocaine buy, officers got a search warrant and seized approximately a quarter kilo of cocaine, more than $18,000 in cash, and four guns.

Twenty-seven-year-old Donnell Smith and 28-year-old Gigi Beard were arrested at the residence.

INV Sean Wyman with the Tallahassee Police Department says, “It's a large amount. These aren't just small-time, street-level dealers. These are people that have been doing it for a while and have had some experience and have been here for a while doing this."

Investigators say there was more cocaine, but Beard was able to flush some of it down the toilet. A surveillance camera monitoring the front door gave her a heads up while officers handcuffed Smith.

Salmon Street residents say they've always felt something fishy was going on at the home, but say they are a little surprised by the drugs and the guns.

The drug bust was a joint effort among the Tallahassee Police Department, the Leon County Sheriff's Office and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.
