Thomasville police say 21-year-old Marcus Samuel and 21-year-old Alfred Jones are under arrest in connection with this weekend's fatal home invasion.
SGT Rachelle Denmark, spokesperson for Thomasville Police, says, "They are both being charged with a variety of charges from feticide, armed robbery, kidnapping, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a firearm during commission of a crime, burglary."
Police say suspects entered the Thomasville home of Ricardo Mitchell and pregnant girlfriend Takeila Johnson early Saturday morning. Police say during the course of the home invasion, suspects shot Johnson in the abdomen. The couple's baby did not survive.
Police aren't saying why the suspects committed the crime, but say a blunder by one suspect aided the investigation.
SGT Denmark says, "We were able to identify one of the suspects really immediately after the incident due to the fact that one suspect actually called out the nickname of another suspect, which was relayed to us by the victim."
The second suspect, Alfred Jones, was picked up Sunday on a traffic stop in Decatur County. Both suspects are being held at the Thomas County Jail without bond.
Home invasion victim Ricardo Mitchell is happy with the news of the arrests.
Ricardo says, "I'm glad that they caught the suspects and I hope they get punished severely."
Mitchell says his girlfriend is still recovering at Archbold Memorial Hospital, and doing well. Of the seven charges both suspects are facing, the feticide charge is the most severe. A police spokesperson described it as "a homicide law for an unborn child."
Police say a feticide conviction carries a possible life sentence.
