Veronica Ash lives just blocks from her childhood elementary school.
Veronica says, "I went to Bond in early 50s. I'm one of the original Bond community students, I guess you could say."
The spot where Bond Elementary School stood for decades is now overrun with construction crews pushing dirt and paving the way to progress, a bittersweet scene for this Bond Elementary School alumni.
Ash says, "I'm one for progress. Wanted a brick, but I'm not sad. Wanted to be on the up and up with everyone else."
Veronica's daughter Angelise Card called Bond home as well. Now she's hoping to pass the torch along to her own children.
Angelise says, "I'm totally excited about a new school. I have a nine-year-old daughter and she currently goes to a school outside our area. We wanted a new school, so very excited."
Bond community members hope a new school brings sweeping changes for the area.
Junious Sampson, a Bond community member, says, "Think it will be nice, an asset to the community."
The $13 million facility is slated to open in the fall of 2006. The new south side elementary school will combine Wesson and Bond Elementary School students.
