The smiles at the Thomasville Chamber of Commerce are a little bigger these days. Chamber President Don Sims was part of the Rose City's contingent on hand Thursday to pick up a $500,000 gift from the One Georgia Authority.
Don says, "There are 159 counties in the state of Georgia, and the awards or the news announcements of new industry are hard to come by, and we're very pleased of the leadership of this group to be able to secure one of those."
Sims says the money will go towards completing the American Fresh Foods processing plant already under construction on the West Bypass.
Sims says the $12 million plant, when completed, will produce about three million pounds of meat a week.
Chamber President Don Sims say the new factory will be a state-of-the-art facility bringing more than 100 jobs to the area. He says the impact of those jobs will be far-reaching."
Sims says, "For every hundred manufacturing jobs, you achieve two and a half service jobs, so there's a multiplier effect there."
Sims says American Fresh Foods clients include Burger King and Sonic, to name a few.
He says a ribbon cutting for the Thomasville plant could come as early as July. Funding for the One Georgia Authority comes from the state's tobacco settlement money.
