July 4th Fireworks and Festivities Around South Georgia

Crews got to work early Monday morning setting up Thomasville's Independence Day fireworks.

Sherri Nix, CNS Marketing Coordinator, says, "We just hope everybody will come out and join us. We enjoy being able to do this for the community, and we just hope everybody will come out and have a good time."

Crews from Melrose Pyrotechnics say the show will feature one ton of explosives.

Allan Stodghill explains, "This is a fuse, a three-inch shell is fired off by hand, we will light that, that will travel down through the fuse to the bottom, lift it off and into the air."

Crew members say they arrived at Remington Park around 8:30 Monday morning and will stay until well after midnight, many hours of work for a 30 minute show.

Eric Livingston with Melrose Pyrotechnics says, "All worth it. It's just seeing the choreography, seeing us paint the sky, and then hearing the crowd and then knowing that your work's been appreciated."

Events are slated to kick off at Remington Park around 6:30. The fireworks display will blast off at 9:30. Organizers say everyone in the area is invited to join the Rose City's Fourth of July celebration.

Among the musicians on stage at Remington Park are 14-year-old blues prodigy Jamie Eubanks.

In Valdosta folks can head to Lowndes High School for a fireworks display there. It too starts at 9:30.
