It’s a tragic story for one Gadsden County family, an argument between a father and son ends with the loss of life. It all happened around 3:30 Saturday morning one mile from the city of Chattahoochee.
Deputies say they've been called to 711 Bonnie Hill Road earlier that night, but no one could have expected what they found.
"The son went over to the father's house and there was another altercation under the car port. There was a struggle I understand and the son got shot in the chest," said MAJ Tommy Haire with the Gadsden County Sheriff's Office.
Authorities say 47-year-old Perry Jones was taken into custody, questioned about his son, 23-year-old Urick Jones’ death. However, Perry Jones was later released.
Just outside the city limits of Chattahoochee a small community is recovering after learning one of their own lost his life at the hands of his father.
Resident Marilyn Holloway added, "Very shocked, very shocked, because Jones is known as a very quite man and Urick was a very respectable young man from what I know, so I'm totally shocked."
MAJ Haire says to his knowledge Perry and Urick had no prior run-ins with the law. He added Perry Jones is a hardworking man who worked for CSX Railroad.
The Gadsden County Sheriff's Office says at this time no charges have been filed.
