DUI arrest rates have gone up in Leon County, and other agencies are starting to take notice of the way local law enforcement is getting it done.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is looking at the possibility of using the low manpower checkpoints put on by Leon County's DUI strike force as a model.
SGT Steve Gauding with the Tallahassee Police Department says it's more effective than bigger checkpoints because they can cover more ground.
"Throughout the state and the country, DUIs remain a large problem, and if we can utilize new ideas, new ways to combat this, then we're all for it, glad to be able to lead the way in that."
There are several of these low manpower checkpoints scheduled for later in the week.
