Visually Impaired Volunteer

Imagine having your sight completely taken away from you in your later years.

In 1999, a stroke left Norine Labitzky blind, but the tragedy hasn't stopped the community volunteer. She credits rehabilitation programs for her independence and spirit and hopes people will support a unique fundraiser.

Labitzki says, "They will eat their dinner in the dark just like a person who can't see, so they'll get an idea of what it's like to be without sight, and they will meet people who work in the community to help the blind."

Dining in the Dark will raise funds for "FIRE," Florida Institute for Rehabilitation and Education. The event is this Sunday.
