The task is much greater for school systems that must protect thousands of students.
Leon school health officials encourage parents to keep their child home if they complain of flu like symptoms such as body aches, fever or a chronic cough.
Students must be fever free for 24 hours before they can return to school.
Bottom line, if they're sick don't send them.
Lori Pilkington with Leon County Schools Health Services says, "Any classic signs of flu, keep the kids hope because can't learn when they are sick and they spread germs to others students and teachers."
If a student does become sick at school and requires medication, a parent must bring that medicine to school and complete a permission slip before it can be administered by a school nurse.
