Saturday’s great weather was perfect for the many outdoor events happening around the Big Bend.
Local fire departments were out in full force at not one, but two events.
The Tallahassee Fire Department celebrated Fire Prevention Week at the Downtown Market Place.
Firefighters showed people how they perform some of their lifesaving duties like cutting open vehicles to rescue trapped passengers.
They also taught people about general fire safety around the home.
CAPT John Gatlin of the Tallahassee Fire Department said, "To know to check their batteries in their smoke detector, to change them twice a year, to have an escape plan, a meeting place. All of that information we want to try to put altogether and get together for them in one location and hopefully they'll walk away and go home."
The safety focus of this year's Fire Prevention Week is on the proper use of candles.
