We all feel pain at the fuel pump... But try spending more than eight thousand dollars a day on gas alone.

Compared to Leon County Schools, we've all got it easy.

The fleet of busses that brings 14 thousand students to school every day, does get a special bulk fleet price of 3 dollars and 50 cents a gallon.

Still -- that's up from just $2.35 last year.

They say when you're using about 23 hundred gallons a day... high gas prices become a real "budget pincher."

"When you've got a fleet of 165, 170 busses that you're running each morning and each afternoon, and in between that we have a lot of field trips and CBI trips, especially ESE trips, we're constantly on the road," said Leon County Schools' Ronnie Youngblood.

District officials say that getting students to and from schools is one of the "essentials."

They have a special reserve fund on hand if prices exceed their projected expenses.
