Two Men Arrested in Gadsden Murder

It took four years, but Gadsden County deputies have just made an arrest in a deadly shooting that claimed the life of 19-year-old Travis Green.

That cold case recently got hot. Two men were arrested Monday night and Travis Green's mother says this will finally allow her son to rest in peace.

"I want to ask them, how did it make them feel to kill somebody when they were begging for their life?"

Mary Ann Walker wasn't sure this day would ever come.

"I always say they got away, but they hadn't got away in the eyes of God. I'm glad they got 'em. I'm just happy my son can rest in peace."

Back in April of 2001, Mary's oldest son Travis Green was shot in the back by a group of assailants as he ran to a neighbor's house for help. Rumors about who did it have swirled around the sawdust community for years, but now after the Gadsden County sheriff reopened this and 16 other cold cases, investigators say they have enough evidence to charge Quintarius Shorter and Gabriel James with murder.

INV Ulysses Jenkins with the Gadsden County Sheriff's Office says, "The people in the sawdust community stepped forward and gave us information they were holding for whatever reason and they made it available to us this time."

Both Shorter and James were already in the Gadsden County Jail awaiting trial for robbery. Now they've been served papers and are awaiting trial for murder too.

Mary Ann Walker says, "Losing your child, that's a hard pill to swallow. It's a feeling you'll never get over, it's a feeling you'll never get over and now that they done arrest them, I can, my mind is at ease. It's at ease."

Shorter and James' robbery trial was slated to begin Tuesday, but now according to the clerk it's been delayed for two weeks because some key witnesses didn't show.
