A tornado watch has been issued for a portion of the WCTV viewing area until 5am EST. The watch includes the counties listed below.

In Georgia:

In Florida:

A tornado watch means that conditions are favorable for tornadoes and severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch area. People located in these area should be on the lookout for threatening weather conditions and listen for later statements and possible warnings.

We will have the very latest throughout the night on TV, here on WCTV.TV and on Facebook and Twitter. Links to our social media accounts are below.

Nighttime severe weather safety tips provided by the National Weather Service:

* Do you know how to get warnings at night? If you have a NOAA
Weather Radio, make sure it's set to alert when a warning is issued.
It may be annoying when it wakes you up in the middle of the night,
but it could save your life.

* Know what county you live in. The warning message that will be
aired will list the counties within the warned area. If your county
is listed in the warning, take shelter immediately.

* If you have a NOAA Weather Radio, but don't have it programmed
yet, visit our website at to learn what
frequency to tune your radio to.

* Have a plan and know your plan! In case of a tornado warning or
severe thunderstorm warning, take shelter in an interior room of
your residence, preferably a room with no windows or glass, such as
a closet or bathroom. Your safest location may be your bathtub with
a mattress to cover you.

* Mobile homes provide little or no protection during severe
weather. If you live in a mobile home, consider finding shelter in a
sturdy structure before severe weather threatens you area.
