Tallahassee's top cop, Police Chief Walt Mcneil, is now the sixth vice president of the International Association of Chiefs of Police.
Mcneil, who was sworn in during a service in Miami, held a reception in Tallahassee today to thank his fellow colleagues for their support during his eight years as chief.
"It means that this is a statement from the fellow chiefs around the country.... Being elected sixth vice president is a vote of support, and it says that the things we do at the Tallahassee Police Department are worthy of recognition," says Chief Mcneil.
This honor means McNeil will be in the forefront of discussions including tazer usage and homeland security.
Mcneil will automatically become president of the organization in 2011.
