THE SEARCH FOR SUSPECTS IN THE MURDERS OF FIVE HISPANIC IMMIGRANTS AND ATTACKS ON SIX OTHERS CONTINUES TODAY.
WHILE SOUTH GEORGIA AUTHORITIES CONTINUE TO SEARCH, OTHERS ARE TRYING TO DEAL WITH THE SHOCKING CASE.
THE SIGHT OF CRIME SCENE TAPE AND FIVE BODY BAGS HAS CAUSED A WAVE OF FEAR AND CONCERN ACROSS SOUTH GEORGIA FOLLOWING THE BRUTAL MURDERS OF FIVE MEXICAN IMMIGRANTS.
BOTH ADULTS AND CHILDREN SAY THEY ARE AFRAID JUST TO WALK DOWN THE STREET.
"Kids are very fearful," said Deborah Wade. "They are going 'Did you hear?' I hear them keep asking different people, 'Do you know what happened?' So, they're very afraid. You can tell it."
MANY ADULTS ARE ALSO CONCERNED, BUT REMAIN CONFIDENT THAT INVESTIGATORS CAN FIGURE OUT WHO IS RESPONSIBLE AND BRING THEM TO JUSTICE.
"We're definitely confident with our law system, with our sheriff, with the Tifton City Police and we'll stand behind them, pray for them and hope God leads them in the right direction," said Michael Lesseter.
Local residents say in addition to creating a lot of concern, these murders and attacks have shattered the idea that this type of serious crime simply couldn't happen here where they live.
"Its real shocking," said Lisa Blanchard. "You think of small town Tifton, nothing bad like this is supposed to happen. It usually happens somewhere else or on TV. But its shocking to see it only 2 blocks away. And you're left wondering if its safe to walk from your car to the church."
AND WITH LITTLE KNOWN ABOUT THE ATTACKERS, SOUTH GEORGIANS SAY THEY WILL CONTINUE TO BE CONCERNED ABOUT THEIR SAFETY.
