Sheriff's investigators say suspects in custody in the Metcalf lumber case led to the group's leader, 36-year-old Joseph Martin.
Investigators say Martin filled out 40 to 50 stolen checks totaling about $15,000, and helped others cash them.
They say help from Lowndes County Sheriff's Office and Thomas County ID Team helped crack the case.
Jason Shoudel of the Thomas County Sheriff's Office says, "Definitely without a doubt we all have to work together and share that information. It makes our jobs a lot easier and in a lot of cases it actually allows us to solve cases quicker."
Sheriff's investigators say they'll now work with other agencies across south Georgia to possibly link Martin to similar check thefts.
