Oystermen Get Financial Help From State

The Florida Department of Community Affairs is throwing oystermen a life vest.

DCA has allocated $350,000 to help oystermen with housing costs.

Rep. Will Kendrick says the money will be dispersed through the State Housing Initiatives Program, also known as the "SHIP Program." He says applications are available at the Armory in Apalachicola.

It's been four months since oystermen were kicked off Apalachicola Bay because of hurricanes and red tide.

More than 100 remain out of work.
