November is National Adoption Awareness Month. While all adoption-related issues are important, such as open adoption, the particular focus of this month is the adoption of children currently in foster care.
The head of the Children's Home Society says foster children are far too often overlooked.
David Overstreet, Executive Director, says, "Across the state there are about 750 children waiting from the foster care system. In the Big Bend area there are about 28 children waiting to be adopted. It's an opportunity for us to really emphasize the need for these children to have the opportunity to be able to grow up in a home with parents."
There will be an adoption day celebration at the Florida Capitol November 19.
If you would like to adopt a foster child or children, like the Polston family who have adopted five, call the Children's Home Society at 921-9139.
