The Florida Department of Law Enforcement investigators arrested 41-year-old Gregory Tyrone, a doctor at a Tampa hospital, this week.
FDLE says the doctor came to a Tallahassee hotel in 2001, assumed the identity of a prominent Atlanta doctor and tapped into his bank finances.
Investigators say the scope of his crimes remains unclear.
Phil Kiracofe with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement says, "With good identity thieves like he is we often just scratch the surface. We do know he's been active in other states and other parts of Florida and so we've tried to connect with other law enforcement agencies that could be working him."
The doctor is accused of stealing the identity of six people in Florida, all financially well-off.
Investigators caught up to him in Tampa where he was receiving disability payments from the government.
