Salary Negotiations for School Employees Reach Impasse

Negotiations between school employees and school board members are hitting a brick wall again.

United Teachers of Suwannee County has declared an impasse on salary negotiations with the Suwannee County School Board.

Employees are asking for a six percent increase across the board. The school superintendent says three percent is the best the school board can offer.

Walter Boatright, Jr., Suwannee County School Superintendent, says, "We have cut all of the general operating expenses by five percent last month which excluded salaries and utilities in an attempt to make an assertive effort from the part of the board to show a good faith effort that we are negotiating in good faith."

The teachers union disagrees that the budget can not meet their requests. The superintendent hopes to have the issue solved soon.
