FAMU's famous Marching 100 is about to join nine of the top marching bands in the country for a shot at proving whose band is "best in the land."

For the fourth year in a row the Marching 100 is a finalist in the Honda Battle of the Bands Showcase. The band is one of 10 finalists out of 41 nominees around the country.

Each finalist gets $10,000 and a shot at ultimate bragging rights.

"To us, it is extremely important because it means that we are striving hard to live up to our own expectations, artistic excellence and musical performance," says FAMU band director Dr. Julian White.

Officials from Honda will be on FAMU's campus this week for a formal announcement.

The competition takes place on January 28 at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta.
