The Lowndes County Fair kicks off Thursday night, and in addition to all the fun it’s going to help out local military veterans.
The fair is sponsored by the Valdosta Chapter of the American Legion. The post uses the money it raises to help out needy veterans and their families.
Organizers say it’s a great way to help support veterans while giving local families something fun to enjoy.
Phil Youngblood, Commander of American Legion Post 13, says, "This began as an effort or a way to raise funds, ensuring we can carry on these programs the American legion was founded on, obviously taking care of the veterans, their survivors and their dependents."
The Lowndes County Fair starts Thursday and runs through next week. The event is the American Legion's largest fundraiser in the Valdosta area.
