Residents Weigh in About Gadsden County Hospital

It's the talk of the town in Gadsden County. Residents in the rural community are concerned with the hospital no longer in operation.

Vera Kelly says, "I think it's detrimental to the people, especially those who are on Medicaid who don't have means of getting to Tallahassee to get this service, and it's going to be real hard for them."

Residents say what's also hard is trying to find modes of transportation to travel to Leon County for medical care.

Kristie Linzy adds, "It's a hassle. I have to go all the way to Tallahassee, especially if it's an emergency, or call the ambulance to come and get you. It's going to be complicated to get help quick because there's no hospital there."

The consensus in the community is for county officials to "heat up" efforts to reopen the hospital to avoid a major crisis.

Janith Haber also says, "If someone needs to go to a hospital quickly, there's nothing around. I personally would rather go to Tallahassee, but if it's something like getting stitches in a hurry, or a heart attack; you need something close by."

But in the meantime, it's a wait-and-see approach if the hospital will finally get the "green light" to reopen the community hospital. There is no word on when that will happen.
